Travelling with a baby is not easy to say the least. You also have to remember that every single baby is different too. Some of them will settle regardless of where you are, and others may be a bit more unsettled with the change in routine. If you want to help yourself, then you have to make sure that you have everything you need sorted before you go. You then have to adapt less when you are on the road, and this helps to keep your stress levels down to a minimum.
Be Realistic with your Plans
Travelling with a baby of any age is not as easy when compared to travelling with your partner or even your friends. That being said, if you can be realistic, then this will make the trip way less harrowing. Take it easy to begin with, by searching for holidays in Kent over holidays in London for example. If you can do this, then you will soon find that it is easier for you to adapt because you are less busy trying to fight all the crowds.
Check with your Airline
Infants should be a minimum of two to three weeks old before they are allowed to travel, but this can vary. If you can you need to check with your airline so you can see what booking policies there are available. Usually, these will differ depending on the airline that you go with and the country that you are travelling to. If you are worried about flying with your baby, then remember, there’s nothing wrong with taking a road trip.
Keep Everything Handy
If you know that you are flying, then it is wise for you to keep everything you may need for your baby in your carry on luggage. A bag with a ton of pockets is always a good thing because it means you can access everything you need with ease. Check that you have more than enough clean clothes and that you also have a lot of wipes and nappies in your hand luggage too. If you can make the effort to pack more than you need, as well as a fresh top for yourself, then this will help you out quite a lot. You can’t go wrong with having a lot of toys for your child either as it helps them to stay distracted when on a plane.
Get a Light Pushchair
A light pushchair truly is invaluable when you go away for a few days. If you know that you are going to be flying, then you can take it to the aircraft doors, before storing it in the hold. You can also get it back when you land, and if you have a pushchair that is light, it’ll be easier for you to take wherever you need to go. Taking a sling with you is very good too, especially if it is hands-free as this gives you way more options when trying to make your way through the airport when you arrive.
Ask for Support
Another thing that you need to do is ask for support if you need it. If you are going away with your family or your friends, then ask them to take care of the baby for you while you pack, or while you get your luggage down. If you can do this, then you can free up your hands as well as your mind and this can work in your favour. Just make sure that you do what you can to avoid feeling guilty about it. Remember that most of the time, people are more than happy to help, you just need to learn how to ask for it.
Get your Documentation
Another thing that you have to do is try and get all of your documentation in order. This includes your passport as well as any accommodation documents that you have. If you can get things like this organised, then you will soon find that it is easier for you to streamline the process of getting on the plane and to your hotel room. This is usually the most stressful part of travel, so try and keep this in mind if you can.
Of course, if you take into account the above trips when you next go away, you will soon find that it is easier than ever for you to have the best time while also ensuring that you do not end up making the trip more stressful than it needs to be.
