How to utilise your time during lockdown to spruce up your home

Like myself, I’m sure many of you had been hoping for a better start to 2021, especially after such a challenging previous year. Unfortunately, we find ourselves in yet another lockdown which means more time indoors, whilst spending our days wondering how to keep ourselves and more importantly, the children entertained.

During this first lockdown, many homeowners turned their hands to DIY and utilised their spare time to redecorate or undertake more complex renovation work; because let’s be honest, what else was there to do? With no indication as to when this lockdown might end, I’m sure it’s not just me who wants to use this time to spruce up the home, whether that’s by applying a lick of paint to the living room or changing the colour theme of the accessories in the bedroom.

If you’re wanting to change the decor of your home, no matter home small or extravagant the project may be, then I’ve teamed up with Chill Insurance to share some hints and tips from their latest campaign, ‘A Guide to DIY’.

What are some of the most popular interior design trends?

As a lover of all things interior design, I like to keep an eye on up and coming trends. According to Chill’s campaign, it’s all about being cosy when it comes to the decor within your living room. Velvet sofas and thick rugs are two of the best ways to create a homely feel within your home, but it’s also the perfect opportunity to add some greenery into your surroundings. I love having plants in the home and by the sounds of it, current design trends for the living room means the more plants the better!

Personally, I feel like the bathroom can often be a difficult area to decorate. A lot of people struggle to know which colour scheme to pick and accessories to choose, but a spa effect is the perfect way to create a calming atmosphere. Marble is the material of choice, whilst opting for a feature mirror and plants - the perfect combination.

Effective ways to add value to your home

After being confined in your own home for what feels like for an eternity, you may start to think about the prospect of moving. It’s no secret that moving house is a costly affair, but there are simple ways of increasing the amount you have towards a deposit.

Adding value to your home doesn’t have to come at a huge cost and it can be extremely beneficial in the long-run. To begin with, you could consider upgrading your kitchen or bathroom. For many potential buyers the kitchen is the heart of the home and an area they will want to avoid having to replace or complete work on. For more complex projects that may require some savings, adding an extra bedroom will significantly increase the value of your property. Adding an extra bedroom doesn’t have to mean an extension, a loft conversion can provide the same effect and will be an appealing factor to potential buyers.

I hope you’ve found this post helpful if you’re looking to spruce up your home during the lockdown. Whether it’s adding some greenery to your living room or creating a spa-like appearance in your bathroom, the choices are endless.
