We've recently returned from a family holiday in Cornwall where we stayed in a beautiful house in Camelford with my in-laws and my sister in law and we had such a lovely time. Last year we visited Crete in Greece with my in-laws, my sister-in-law, her boyfriend and then my brother-in-law and his girlfriend and again we had such a lovely time being there as a big family. And so today I thought it would be nice to share a post all about what I think the benefits are of going away as a big family.
The special memories
Firstly the memories you create are irreplaceable. For me, it's priceless watching the boys spend proper holiday relaxation time with their Aunties, Uncles and Grandparents. I didn't experience having Grandparents in my life as a child so it's extra special for me to see how precious the relationship between my boys and their grandparents are. There's no better time to make precious memories then on holiday and so having all of the family there just makes those memories feel even more special.
Great accommodation
If you go away as a big group you can find some absolutely stunning places to stay and it won't cost the earth to stay in them as you'll be able to split the cost between you. You can find big houses to rent in absolutely stunning locations via websites like partyhouses.co.uk. Not only can you stay in some pretty amazing places, but you also get the benefit of being able to put the children to bed in the evening and then spend the evening chilling playing games and just enjoying the evening together with your family.
Help with the children
When we go away as a big family we find that it helps to take the pressure off a little in terms of watching the children 24/7 as there are so many extra pairs of eyes and hands. On several occasions family have even offered to watch the boys for us which has given Adam and I some time together to go and enjoy a quiet meal or wander around a town together for an hour or so which has been lovely.
Quality Time
There's no better way to spend quality time with family then on holiday where you can share experiences and memories together. Time together is most relaxing when you're away from everyday routines and stresses and there's no rushing around to get home or flying visits.
New Experiences
You can pretty much guarantee that when you go away with a large group of you that you're going to end up doing something you might not have done if you had gone away just you. Last year in Crete we rode Quad bikes around the island and it was such an incredible experience, but definitely not something I would have ever thought of doing. I was really unsure about it in the beginning, but the more we did it the more I loved it and I know that without everyone else coming up with the idea it's likely not something I would have ever done.
Those are just some of the benefits I've found when going away as a large family. Do you like to go away as one big family?
