When we moved in to our current home, it was a decision based more on location than anything else. I mean, we loved the house and it felt right for us instantly. It was three bedrooms, had a large kitchen, a lovely living room with big open doors that opened up and brought in lots of light. The bedrooms we're probably smaller than we'd hoped for and maybe could have afforded somewhere else, but the house was in a village and for us, that was the selling point.
We'd lived in a new build area previously and really disliked it. The house was nice, but everyone was on top of each other in terms of how the houses were built and there had been some trouble in the area too. We wanted somewhere quiet and somewhere where we felt that as a family we would be happiest.
We bought the house thinking that with a small garden, we probably wouldn't be able to extend and were OK with that. But then Adam's Lego business grew and grew and he needed more space, we looked at a garden office but it just wasn't big enough and so we decided that we would go up and convert our attic.
We saved and saved and finally managed to afford it and have now turned what was our attic into our new bedroom with an en-suite. Our old bedroom is our new office and both of our boys now have their own room too. When we had the attic converted we also decided to redecorate all of the bedrooms and whilst it was stressful at the time, we're so glad that we've done it as we're so pleased with how modern, open and bright everything upstairs looks.
I'm going to be sharing tours of the other bedrooms soon, but today I wanted to give you a look around our brand new loft conversion.
Our new stairs, it's almost like they've always been there.
Our original landing has been redecorated. Canvas by Photobox.
Our second landing.
My dressing table area. My dressing table is from IKEA. The jewellery stand and the acrylic brush pot are both from Amazon.
Our flooring is from Quickstep. The bed was our original bed from Next. The cushions on the bed and the throw are from Laura Ashley. The frames are from Desenio and the shelf holding the frames is from IKEA.
I love our VELUX windows. It's so nice having them open when it's sunny and also they're lovely to look out of at night when you can see the moon and the stars.
Our new wardrobe is from IKEA. It holds so many of our things!
The ottoman is from Argos.
I love the tiles in our ensuite. We decided to pay extra and have the whole thing tiled and we are so glad we did! The tiles are from B&Q. A lot of the bathroom things in our ensuite are from Victoria Plumb.
We've had our chest of drawers a while, they were originally from Next.
We also have two inbuilt cupboards in the room too for extra storage which I show in my the video room tour below.
We absolutely love our new space, it's our favourite room in the house now and we call it 'our sanctuary' because it really feels like it. We still can't believe that we now own a 4 bedroom house in the area of our dreams, we feel so fortunate to have been able to save for it. It's taken a lot of hard work to get to this point and many stressful days, but it has been 110% worth it! We're beyond thrilled with how much space and light our new room brings to our home.
That room is incredible, you must be so pleased! It looks amazing and so bright and airy x
ReplyDeleteThanks Donna, we are really really pleased. It's our favourite room in our house now. xx
DeleteOh my goodness Alex it is beautiful!! I bet you are over the moon with it! I love how bright and airy it is. We have a similar bed from Next and I love the shelf above it with the prints, I think I may do the same, it looks lovely! Are the frames from IKEA too? xxx
ReplyDeleteAh thank you. :) The frames are from Desenio.co.uk - they're such good quality. x
DeleteThis is so lovely. We would love to convert our attic, but doubt we'll ever do it. I really like the colour of your flooring. You must be so pleased with it all.
ReplyDeleteThank you, we are thrilled with it! I'm glad we found the flooring, it's as nice as I had envisioned. x
DeleteIt's so lovely and lots of light coming it. I bet you still pinch yourself every night going to bed, all the more when you have worked so hard to get it. We have the same furniture set from NEXT in our room, but in the grey colour, don't we have great taste :-) x
ReplyDeleteYes I do! I feel so lucky and grateful to have been able to save for it. Ah, yes! Matching tastes! x
DeleteI love this! I love how clean and fresh everything looks, it gives you so much opportunity to change accessories during different seasons or when you just fancy a change. We've started building our extension and seeing yours has made me SO excited to decorate ours. I feel a trip to IKEA is needed! xx
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I love the way you've furnished it. We will eventually have to go up into our loft and it looks a similar size to yours so it's really useful to see how much space you can get out of it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks stunning! I bet you are so pleased its completed and you can have such a useable space!
ReplyDeleteWow it looks stunning Alex very clean and bright looking I love how h have furnished it all.
ReplyDeleteOoooh am thinking I may be stealing your bathroom style! And the bedroom actually - I love all the neutrals. We're about to get a loft room too - v exciting! :) #HomeEtc
ReplyDeleteGosh what an amazing bit of added space! And so bright and airy. Doesn’t feel enclosed at all like some attics can do. I’m so jealous! We’re currently trying to decide now whether we want to do our loft. I’m forwarding this to my husband ;)
