Russell the Dream Sheepdog | Review
Recently Ethan and I were sent the lovely Russell the Dream Sheepdog to review. Russell (if you haven't already heard all about him and his greatness to get children to sleep) is an adorable cuddly toy dog that features a soft changing warm glow in his chest. His glow gently lights up and alternates between a calming green and blue colour display. Which if your child is anything like mine, really helps little ones fall nicely to sleep, all by themselves!
Better still Russell has a voice recorder so us parents can create a personalised recording of ourselves or even record favourite songs or stories. Adam had a go at recording a little something for Ethan but lets just say it wasn't particularly calming (men, eh?!). So we've now recorded Ethans favourite lullaby on to Russell - which has gone down an absolute treat with him and I am sure it helps him to get to sleep by himself!
The lights on Russell last for 30 minutes, which is brilliant because it's just enough time for E to fall asleep to. And it means I don't have to attempt to sneak into his room to press the button on again and risk waking him up! I never understand why some of these mobiles or toys that are made to help soothe your little ones to sleep only stay on for a couple of minutes..! With the recording - Russell repeats it 8 times and with 4 minutes recording time that equates to 32 minutes, which again, is just enough.
I've spoken so many times about how night lights and lullabies are what got Ethan to sleep independently, we got our bed back thanks to products just like Russell. And now that E has Russell in there with him - he's just an extra aid to provide comfort at night, but this time in the shape of a soft, cuddly dog friend. We love Russell and think he's brilliant for toddlers who are learning to sleep alone at night.

It'd be for my twin daughter. They love Ewan so Russell would join our family x
ReplyDeleteI work in a special needs school for children who are visually impaired and have complex needs, many of whom I think this would be great for. For those with some vision, or even those without any - the soft material of the dog would make it ideal for those who require certain types of sensory feedback that they could get from squeezing, pressing or stroking the dog. The added feature of recording a message is again so great for my learners who learn through short phrases or songs, and this would also make a great calming toy or interaction toy to either develop communication or to help the learners to control their behaviour or anxieties :)
