I remember one Christmas as a child, blowing out my Mums candle which was sitting on a shelf above the fireplace. I blew it so hard that it fell off of the shelf and onto the rug below. Luckily, the flame had already gone out but the rug wasn't so lucky and was covered in wax.
Another year, my Mum moved around the furniture in the living room just after Christmas whilst taking the decorations down. She accidentally put the armchair to close to the has heater but she didn't realise until my Dad, who'd decided to sleep down stairs that night because he was ill and didn't want to wake my Mum, put the gas heater on to keep warm. He fell asleep and woke to flames - the armchair had caught fire. Everyone managed to get out of the house, but the family home had caught fire and we lost the downstairs completely.
From candles and fire places being lit, to ice and snow covering the ground, I try to be wary of all of the dangers that this time of year can bring as well as all of the excitement. Do you?
